This constitutes one of the most important and massive works concerning the American Indian, a foundation stone of ethnological studies in America, and by far one of the most extensive single work on the American Indian issued in the 19th century.

Rare book set in 1/2 black calf leather binding, scuffed, occasionally rubbed & blistered, some wear/tear/chipping to covers, spine, ends & corners. One inch of the top front hinge of volume 1 is split and visible but the board is still firmly attached & the binding is tight, intact on both volumes. Missing a piece of leather on the back board of volume 2. The leather is smooth and supple to the touch. The pages are clean and bright. |
