Wappingers Falls, NY, U.S.A.: Antique Collectors' Club, 2001. Brand New. This book is a major revision and enlargement of the highly acclaimed Price Guide to Victorian, Edwardian and 1920s Furniture. In this logical and easily understandable guide to what is still the most popular (and perhaps most confusing) period in antique furniture and collecting today, John Andrews discusses all the points that constitute value, whether influenced by construction, fashion or economic trends.
Now exclusively comprising Victorian and Edwardian Furniture, of which 1,000 items are illustrated, this book reveals the mysteries of its subject in a completely revised section on the periods myriad styles, from Rococo and Gothic to Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts. Arranged alphabetically by furniture type, from bookcases to whatnots, each section of the book is lavishly illustrated. Many of the illustrations are new to this revision and they are among the reasons why this book will be the best general survey and the standard reference on its subject for many years to come.
To sum it up: A major revision of what is acknowledged as the best general survey of this major collecting area . Written in straightforward, down-to-earth language, discusses works accessible to most collectors, not museum pieces ! Lavishly illustrated with clear informative photographs; follows the movement in prices over more than a decade giving them an historical perspective .
