Wonderful American Rosewood Victorian parlor suite decorated with crests consisting of neo-classical medaillons, surmounted by beriboned boughs and berries and repeated inlay pattern. In front of the arms are great maiden heads carved in the Egyptian designs. This set includes one large sofa, one settee, two arms and two side chairs.
Matching pieces to this suite are in the Lyndhurst Castle Museum in Tarrytown, New York. The Lyndhurst Castle was the home of Jay Gould in the 1880's after he moved from his house in New York City. Jay Gould was a railroad magnate and a Wall Street tycoon. Pictures of the matching parlor suite can be seen in the book "American Heritage History of Antiques" Volume 1 and in the Lyndhurst Castle Museum literature.
