Victorian silverplated dish. The measuments are approx 12 1/2" from one side to the other and 5" across the middle and 4" high at the highest point (top of the handle).
The inside of the tray is oval in shape and has a wonderfully engraved swallow type bird on a leafy branch with flowers. Around the outside of the tray are stylized flowers with a chased design around the edge. On each end of the tray are wonderful t-bar handles with daisy petals on either side and draped swag and berry accents. The legs are of ball and rod construction with applied floral panels.
The underside of the tray is marked with the manufactures impressed logo which reads "ROGERS SMITH & CO., MERIDEN, CONN" written in a circle with the number "138". There are several different marks or logos used by this company dating back to the 1850's, the mark on this item would appear to be from around 1880.
The condition of this tray is good. The plating is still bright which really shows off the darker, engraved designs. There are some small dents, bumped edges and light surface scratches. |
