10941
Rare Mechanical Aesthetic Movement Butter Dish circa 1890 This is the best of butter servers. This lovely Simpson, Miller, Hall and Company butter dish has all the bells and whistles. The server features 2 lovely cherubs (no wings) or children supporting scrolling metal fretwork that is holding up a sphere. The sphere is etched on both sides with a lovely aesthetic pattern of flowers and Persian carpet in the middle. The piece features an acanthus leaf decorated carrying handle and a place to rest a butter knife. The exciting part about the butter dish is that when you lift the knob of the dish that both sides of the cover unfold around to the bottom of the dish. This is always quite exciting to have company over and have them marvel for a half an hour over something as common as a butter dish.

When you open the dish, you will see a gold washed plate that the butter sits upon. The plate fits quite snuggly in the overall piece, but is removable so you can put ice underneath it to keep your butter cold and firm.

10163
Rare Mechanical Aesthetic Movement Butter Dish circa 1890 This magnificent silver mechanical butter dish was made by the Rockford Silver Co. It is quadruple plated.

This company was established in 1873 as the Racine Silver Plate Co. and was renamed Rockford Silver Co. in 1882. This name was used from 1882-1925.

Design and hallmark on bottom dates this piece of art in the late 1890's to 1905.

This butter dish is in near mint original condition. It stands a grand 12.5" tall and 9" wide. It has a metal insert for the butter. You put ice in the area under the insert to keep it cool.

Unigue mechanical lid raises and lowers with a lever and chain design. Very clever and different.

Silver butter knife shown in the photos is included.

10154
Aesthetic Movement Silverplated Dish Victorian silverplated dish. The measuments are approx 12 1/2" from one side to the other and 5" across the middle and 4" high at the highest point (top of the handle).

The inside of the tray is oval in shape and has a wonderfully engraved swallow type bird on a leafy branch with flowers. Around the outside of the tray are stylized flowers with a chased design around the edge. On each end of the tray are wonderful t-bar handles with daisy petals on either side and draped swag and berry accents. The legs are of ball and rod construction with applied floral panels.

The underside of the tray is marked with the manufactures impressed logo which reads "ROGERS SMITH & CO., MERIDEN, CONN" written in a circle with the number "138". There are several different marks or logos used by this company dating back to the 1850's, the mark on this item would appear to be from around 1880.

The condition of this tray is good. The plating is still bright which really shows off the darker, engraved designs. There are some small dents, bumped edges and light surface scratches.

Aesthetic Movement Transferware tile The transferware tiles are much more difficult to come by than the plates and platters, etc. This is an excellent example of an English blue & white aesthetic transferware tile. It is 6" square and has a geometric background with medallions of flowers and birds. It is in very good condition with some slight damage on one edge where it was taken off a wall.

1181
Aesthetic Movement Minton Tile c. 1885 Aesthetic Movement Tile by Minton c1885 This decorative tile was made by Minton. It is marked to the reverse with Minton's China Works Stoke On Trent and the circular mark which would have read, Minton Stoke on Trent, Wallbrook London. As this tile has been used, you can only just about make out the shape of the circular mark. There is a picture of this tile in the book Fired Earth, 1000 years or Tiles in Europe, Richard Dennis Publications, on page 128. It is described as: a tile with under-glaze printed decoration of oriental style branches.. Dust-pressed Minton's China Works, c 1885. Private Collection. The tile measures 15cm (6") square. There is possibly a little nibbling one edge, but otherwise, this piece is in very good condition. It is housed in a very easy to remove frame for display purposes ( protection too.)
