American Windsor Furniture Specialized Forms by Nancy Evans First Edition - 1997. This is the companion volume to Nancy Goyne Evans's American Windsor Chairs, published in 1996. American Windsor Furniture continues the author's study of American Windsor furniture, which was part of the fabric of American life from well before the birth of the nation until the mid nineteenth century and is now among the most widely collected categories in the decorative arts field. Here are highchairs and other children's furniture; writing-arm chairs, rocking chairs (these took the country by storm in the 1820s), settees and benches, stools, and spinning wheels; such rare forms as commode chairs, seats for invalids, barber chairs, and seating for use in vehicles; even toy miniatures. The material is surveyed by form, then by geographic region and pattern chronology, from Pennsylvania through New York, New England, the South, the Midwest, and Canada. Each form is treated in cultural, economic, and technological context.

SOUTHERN FURNITURE 1680-1830 - The Colonial Williamsburg Collection Williamsburg furniture curators Hurst and Prown have compiled a veritable catalogue raisonne of Southern decorative arts relating to furniture. This glorious work focuses not only on the fine artistry and diversity of the functional items but also the historical background of the Chesapeake, Low Country, and Backcountry regions of Virginia and North and South Carolina through brief articles on each of the regions. The second portion contains the catalog of works focusing on seating furniture, tables, case furniture (chests, tall clocks, cabinets), and other forms (cradles, beds, screens). Beautiful illustrations highlight each of the 183 objects from simple, roughhewn elegance to detailed, ornate craftsmanship. Descriptions of each object include a brief historical sketch, construction, condition, material, dimensions, marks, a provenance, and a brief bibliography. A glossary of furniture terms, including diagrams and line drawings, is also featured. This catalog is highly recommended for most decorative arts collections and general collections in major research libraries.

Honore Lannuier: Cabinetmaker from Paris - Antiques by Lise Bohm Honore Lannuier: Cabinetmaker from Paris: The Life and Work of a French Ebeniste in Federal New York by Peter M. Kenny, Ulrich Leben, Frances F. Bretter, Bruce White (Photographer) Foreword by John K. Howat. This is a hardcover, 253pp. ISBN: 0810965178 published by The Metropolitan Museum of Art in April 1998. Although his brief but productive career as a cabinetmaker in New York lasted a mere sixteen years, the French-born maitre ebeniste Charles-Honore Lannuier (1779-1819) was a leading figure in the development of a distinctive and highly refined style of furniture in the Late Federal period. A contemporary of the renowned master Duncan Phyfe, Lannuier, like him, made fashionable gilded card tables, marble-topped pier tables, bedsteads, and seating furniture for wealthy clients numbering among the mercantile and social elite of New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Richmond, and Savannah. This volume, which complements the exhibition "Honore Lannuier, Parisian Cabinetmaker in Federal New York" held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, in spring 1998, represents the most complete study of Lannuier's life and work published to date.

HERE'S THE LONG OUT-OF-PRINT AND DIFFICULT TO FIND 1ST EDITION HARDCOVER BOOK WITH DUST JACKET "THE AMERICAN RENAISSANCE 1876-1917" BY RICHARD GUY WILSON AND OTHERS! Published in 1979 by The Brooklyn Museum in association with Pantheon Books of New York, this visually loaded out-of-print 1st edition hardcover book provides the following statement: "One of the intents of the American Renaissance was the unification of all the arts into one creative amalgamation that would encompass painting, sculpture, the decorative arts, architecture, and the setting, whether the garden or the urban landscape, as a unit. This book, The American Renaissance, examines the various elements that went to make such a coherent aesthetic statement. It defines the concept of the movement and the impact it had upon life and culture in the United States from 1876 -- the Centennial Exposition and the beginning of internationalism -- to 1917 -- America's entry into the First World War." The book is divided into the following sections: 1) Foreword; 2) The Great Civilization; 3) Expressions of Identity; 4) Cultural Conditions; 5) Presence of the Past; 6) Scientific Eclecticism; 7) Periods and Organizations; 8) Statements of Culture; 9) Architecture, Landscape, and City Planning; 10) Decorative Art: The Domestic Environment; 11) Painting and Sculpture; 12) Index; 13) Selected Further Reading; 14) Catalogue of the Exhibition; 15) Acknowledgments; and 16) Index to Lenders.
